I read a really saddening post today. You can read it here.
That pretty much destroyed my morning, because I know the effect it will have on a lot of people. I really like Ragamuffin Soul’s attitude on the subject.
I was disturbed by some of the comments below his post. I think that too many times, when someone has a huge platform we tend to think that they are never allowed to make mistakes. Now granted, having a platform does mean that you have more people watching you when/if you make those mistakes…but essentially they are still human. I think this is something we tend to forget quite often. I find myself in the same place at times. Quite frankly, it pisses me off. Haha. We have the attitude of, “oh my gosh, Chris Tomlin is starting a new church with Louie Giglio, and it’s not from God, so I’m not going to listen to his music anymore…it’s not anointed now” or “I knew it, there was something about that Ted Haggard dude”….I mean, these are CRAZY things to ever think about. We always want a justify why we aren’t okay with something. We want to always find a reason for something being different to us. We always want to find the negative. When something does happen we say “I had a strange feeling about that the whole time…” Seriously? Did you? Or are you making that up?
Sorry, this whole post is probably really scatterbrained but I am just more mad than anything. I guess I just expect more from people (in regards to the comments of the post). Jesus desires restoration, not condemnation (Romans 8:1). And regardless of what happened, I still believe the song Healer is anointed. I still believe it has the power to literally heal. And by golly, I’m going to still listen to it, and declare it!
Here’s what I think our position should be:
1. Cover our leaders with prayer.
2. Continue to pray for them even when/if they fall.
3. Quit talking negative about them and start saying positive things about them. (No “told you so” crap)
4. Love on them.
5. Be there for them and help them in any way possible.
Now please, don’t think I disagree with their punishment, because I don’t. I just think our attitudes as Christians should goal towards restoration, grace, and mercy. Jesus would do it. And if we desire to truly be like Jesus, we should model the same. The church is all about people. So if you have 30 seconds, say a prayer for Mike Gugliemucci. Sorry for the scatterbrained post!
